The underlying allegory that unifies the poem is intended to function alongside a message that promotes practical love to anyone in need. The title 'Servitude' implies that we are all a servant of something or someone.

A contemporary art song for SA choir and piano. A soundscape frames the choral setting of the poem, using voices to evoke the cries of the sea. 'Sea Shell' was composed in 2007 by Linda Billingham, with text by Myra Cohn Livingston.
